We humans are sensitive creatures. We’ve evolved to survive at sea level only on the planet we live on. We are the only species on Earth that wears clothes to survive. How did such a fragile species reach the level to go to Mars? Adaptability and curiosity. Wherever we are in the world, we adapt to the region we are in. We live there appropriately, we use the materials of that place. We build ourselves a bunker out of adobe or ice. We may have a hard time remembering, but our ancestors lived in caves for decades. But no matter what century or age, the men in that cave never stopped looking at the stars and wondering. We humans dream to the bone. We’ve traveled millions of kilometers through the darkness. We were all ready to leave everything behind. Because giving this place a life was all it took for humanity to keep dreaming.

Terra Amata means "beloved homeland" in Latin. 400,000 years ago, in Nice, France, our ancestors Homo erectus, migrated from Central Africa to Europe to a less temperate climate, creating the earliest known man-made dwelling by building a wall of branches compressed into the sand and covering it with stones. They called it HOME now. Inspired by our ancestors, I named the first colony Terra Amata. Because they were the first humans to grasp the meaning of making a forced home.

I think the most important detail in the creation process is to promise the astronauts a roof that can stick their head when they get there. When the first people to set foot on Mars reach the settlement, they should really see a home there. That’s why we should be inspired by the reason we put on our clothes. Clothes act as a curtain that protects us from the harsh conditions of nature. If we apply this logic in 3D writing, it will be the most reliable option to use a protective shield covered with steel walls instead of an open printer, and to create a nest inside this shield.

Mars needs to be self-sufficient.

Terra Amata Colony-2030

We came to this line thanks to harmony with nature, we established these civilizations. We used nature , analyzed it and learned by experience . If we want to inject the nature of the Earth, which is ten million kilometers away, to Mars, we will encounter a civilization that flashes fast like a pile of straw. Mars needs to be self-sufficient.

While we can send supplies to the Moon in a few hours, it may take 1-2 years for us to send supplies to Mars. So we have to build a nest using Martian materials. We can obtain Martian concrete with the ice, Martian aggregate and calcium oxide found on Mars. With ice , SİO2 and high temperature furnace , we obtain Silica Mars glass . We can solve these favorable conditions inside the 3D printer. Robots from Earth are also tasked with finding this material in this process.

In the event that materials are found and various tools such as air locks and technology from Earth reach Mars, new constructions can continue all the time, but since we consider the current process as a one-way ticket, we created the colony from 5 different structures. These structures are transitioned to each other with the extension of corridors. If these corridors are used to cross the surface of Mars, a safer entry and exit concept for the colony occurs.

As on Earth, there are pathogens on Mars. In case of an epidemic, the doors are closed and that section is quarantined. In this way, epidemics are not transmitted to other parts. The first floors of all the buildings are buried in the ground. There are shelter and life support units in the basement of the main building in the center. In each of the other buildings, there are bedrooms and a cleaning section. People living in the regions divided by the distribution of duties will continue in the working areas immediately above.

Useful Areas

For example, a biologist will stay in the bedroom in the same building while working in the biology laboratory. In this way, we will relieve the human circulation inside the building. As for the form, hubbe or circle plan logic will create unusable areas. So the hexagonal form will leave more mathematical fields. The fact that the radius is not very variable and goes in the vertical direction will increase the energy efficiency of the 3D printer. Contrary to the thick Martian walls, the use of the building and the entire diagrid system on the exterior will distribute the load on the structure equally.

In terms of additional security, by applying the gabion wall logic in the outer environment, it acts as an extra wall and at the same time turns the dangerous sun rays that can enter through large windows into a dim environment. This structure, which is only 1 floor underground, will now be completely buried under the ground. The plant growing section on the floors will attract the direct sunlight coming from above. Thanks to LED lights in the evenings, its growth and photosynthesis production will continue.

Cro-Magnon Underground City - 2050

Neanderthals disappeared about 40,000 years ago in the middle of the last ice age, on the way to the Würm Glaciation, and were replaced by modern humans, Homo Sapiens. One of them, the Cro-Magnon people, developed the tradition of making tools over the previous generation. They covered their nests using different materials, mammoth bones and hides from the last period.

My choices in names. It is the naming of human history in chronological order. Because although we can call ourselves human, being human is something completely different. Even in the present, our ancestral cousins ​​are at war, children and families are suffering. People in Africa are dehydrated amid all the blessings the world has given. Colonies will continue to be built and grown on Mars. I don’t know how long it will take, maybe hundreds, maybe thousands of years later, when people have formed a colony that can truly call it human, the name of that last city will now be HUMAN.

Both the Terra Amata Colony and the Cro-Magnon Underground City are located in close proximity to each other. Tempe Terra will be a suitable nesting site for the colony. Its scenery, interesting geological features, proximity to lava channels and worst case scenario, if there is no water, they will be able to travel a very short distance to reach the North Pole.

One of the other natural solutions to protect from radiation on Mars is to build the colony on the skirts of a mountain or crater. In this way, a 50% reduction in radiation appears. At the same time, we can reduce the radiation to 1-2% by going underground. Terra Amatada, going to the flat land near this crater and collecting the necessary samples, establishes a safer ground for the year 2050.

If we don’t build a home to support people, Mars will kill people there in a thousand different ways. The rationale for the formation of the Cro-Magnon Underground City is to provide suitable construction conditions for the colony without human intervention and without taking in the dangerous Martian atmosphere outside.

Our 3D printer continues printing even at high latitudes. Thanks to its 3 overlapping parts, it will be able to move its parts in X, Y, Z coordinates by calculating the center of mass on sloping lands.

In the formation of earthquakes, asteroids hitting Mars, etc. In such cases, the Cro-Magnon Underground City always needs a carrier system. The asteroids will always continue to crash into Mars. We can’t prevent it from crashing, but we can protect the city from these crashes. The machine identifies the hard rocks in the underground thanks to the previously found or built-in detectors. It pierces the rock and does not touch some planned rocks.

This creates the natural carrier columns of the colony. The machine not only digs underground, but creates parts of the city with the 3D printer on the back.

Nuclear reactors and solar panels will meet their energy needs. It is possible to double the power of Nuclear Fission with Composite Nonowire Technology. In long sandstorms, there will be a decrease in energy as the solar panel will lose its function. At this point Nuclear Fissions will come into play.

For centuries, people have spent understanding that the understanding of science we know on Earth is the same in the universe. Physics on Earth is the same as physics on planets and stars. The chemistry on Earth is the same as in gas clouds and stars. But the basic science that people do not know whether it is the same or not, only biology remained. Therefore, a large laboratory was established in the city.

Even while preparing for this competition , we had a lot of problems and conflicts within the group . We got rid of all of this one way or another and dispersed to our homes. This will not happen on Mars. Group work is the most important factor for Mars. That’s why people need to have a comfortable mindset. A large part of the city was built social facilities for these relaxations. Social facilities were established as much as possible, from football to swimming, from cinema to conferences.

Philosophy

Another important factor is that the city is governed by the parliament. Instead of colonizing a new planet, a policy should be chosen that treats Mars as its home. Many times while drawing this project, it felt as if I was drawing a prison.

I had a hard time imagining people living in a box all the time. Mars is our new home, but we are from Earth. For this reason, it is imperative that all citizens remain as tourists on Mars until the Martian atmosphere reaches the level to breathe. It is a mixture of the Earthlings policy of being completely removed from Earth. Persons who will use high-level political positions are determined by election. Elections are held at regular intervals and without interruption. Opposition parties are given the opportunity to seize power.

There is no one-party government. Fundamental rights are guaranteed by the constitution. It has strict rules. There is a balance of power. It is a system based only on ethical values. It is based on a minimalist and liberal life, not a colonial and capitalist order. I think the biggest goal of human beings is to learn to give more importance to water, air, food, and the things we need than money.

Not all companies are bad. But when corporations start to control governments, that’s when the situation really gets worse. This is what is happening in the present world. If Earthlings want to make money from Mars, they should not use it as mining. Because this precious metal will create big problems in terms of habitability on Mars, where it is on Earth afterward.

Various samples can be sent to Earth, but things will go bad if this is monetized. Do we have to experience disasters to understand things? You don’t have to experience it to see disaster. We just have to look to the future. That’s why he should defend the policy that what happens on Mars stays on Mars. If the Earth has the character traits to think about going to Mars for money, not for humanity, I think it would be healthy to postpone going to Mars for the next century. Or they need to improve their methods of making money.

Economy

The fact that currencies are material makes the most sense in this process. At the same time, in order to grow under the control of the country, “electricity” will be a currency. 5% – 10% taxation will be applied. An additional income will be obtained from the hotel, which has a view of the city and Mount Olympus. Sending or bringing something to Mars is a very difficult and expensive process. If Mars wants to improve its economic process, the only way is to use the internet. When we look at the current richest companies, we can see that these companies are working on software. Accessing the application of a planet tens of millions of kilometers away will only be limited to the fingers. It will take us 12 minutes to go from Earth to Mars. Additional revenues will be generated from Mars’ copyrighted applications and websites.

The first Mars explorations were delayed by an intense and dangerous scientific process. If humans are able to do this, the Cro-Magnon human settlement may come to life after Terra Amata has passed the station level. A new embryonic civilization is born out of nothing. If we can achieve these, we will not only bring life to Mars, but also give life to our new home.
